UNC submission to GoI on proposed appointment of RN Ravi as interlocutor

United-Naga-Council

Shri Narendra Modi
The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India,
South Block, New Delhi.

Hon’ble Sir,

Proposed appointment of Mr RN Ravi as interlocutor for political negotiations on the Indo-Naga issue – request for review.

With due respect we draw your kind attention to media reports on the proposed appointment of Mr. RN Ravi, a former Director, Intelligence Bureau as the Government of India’s (GoI’s) Interlocutor for political negotiations on the Indo-Naga issue. This reportage has come as a damper to the spirit of our people who have prayerfully upheld the Indo-Naga peace process all through the 17 long years of cease-fire. Going by the articles Mr Ravi has written and placed in the public domain – “Chasing a chimeric peace“(The Hindu 15th November, 2012 ) and “Nagaland – Descent into chaos” (The Hindu 23rd February, 2014) it is clear that he holds in disrespect the GoI’s declared recognition of the unique history and situation of the Nagas and views the Naga situation only from the law and order perspective. A person who is critical of the GoI’s “ceasefire” with the Naga political groups, when the very purpose of signing a ceasefire is to bring about a solution, will not facilitate solution but will become a part of the problem.

We therefore appeal to the wisdom of the GoI to appoint an interlocutor with acceptable credentials and disposition to ensure that lasting peace is brought about through an honourable and acceptable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue at that earliest possible time.

Thanking you

Yours faithfully
