A Government of India project threatens to flatten sand dunes, encroach on ecologically senssitive waterbodies and take over agricultural lands to set up a 4000 MW coal-burning power plant and associated facilities.

Using simple environmental monitoring techniques to develop baseline environmental data — on hydrology, botanical diversity and ecological sensitivity — CEM is helping local farmers and fisherfolk challenge the destructive land-use change threatened by the Cheyyur Ultra Mega Power Plant.
